Music 1040: Music in Culture

Throughout this semester in the culture in music course, I've changed how I engage with music. While I entered the class with a solid foundation of knowledge, I found myself delving deeper into the musical composition and cultural influences. What once was background noise or catchy tunes has evolved into a rich tapestry of cultural expression, where every melody, rhythm, and lyric carries layers of meaning. This newfound perspective has not only heightened my appreciation for the music itself but has also broadened my understanding of the diverse cultural landscapes from which it emerges. I now consider the broader implications of cultural awareness and I've come to realize the importance of actively engaging with diverse cultural expressions to cultivate a more nuanced understanding of the world around me. Through the exploration of various musical traditions and histories. This realization has not only deepened my sense of empathy and appreciation for cultural diversity but has also sparked a personal commitment to continue expanding my cultural awareness beyond this class.
