Project 1: Map Fold Design
This project took some time but wasn't very difficult. I spent a lot of time spacing lines out and getting the information for the inside of the folded design. I think the design is form over function but so is Swiss International Style. Because we couldn't use stock images I struggled to fill space effectively in the style because it was all about typography and photography. I started with the front. I was inspired by the New York public transit system because it is known still today as a shining example of Swiss International design in the us. I then worked on the back which I had a hard time filling. Overall I think I did okay but not spectacular.Â
Project 2: Digital Design
I liked this assignment and I'm proud of most of the pages. I really like a lot of the interactivity. I think my weakest pages are unfortunately the "home" and "Your Trip" pages. I like the way the caves and trails turned out the best and I like the overall design I ended up with. If I could do it again I would have planned and had more time to work on this project.
War of the Worlds.pdfProject 3: Multi-Chapter Book
I chose War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells for this book making assignment because I love it. I like the way the story was told by someone in the scenario and not in the third person or with any omni intelligent narrator and with that in mind I used typefaces that looked like old labelmakers or typewriters to make it feel less like a book and more like a journal. I also found the original Illustrations from the french publication of the book that have now entered the public domain and used them to add to the chapter headers. All of the technical things were easy but took a lot of time. The timing of this assignment lined up with the assignment to format, design, and prepare a book cover in photoshop so it was convenient to use the design and file I was using for that project as the cover of this project. I like the product and overall I feel I did well. If I had to change anything I would have chose a shorter book and maybe chose something That I could be more playful with as opposed to my choices which was a little more stiff in design language.
Skills Practice: Create a Varnish Plate
I first made my set of layers that I would like including Dieline and Gloss Varnish. Then in the swatches panel I made a spot color for Dielines and another for Gloss Varnish and named them self explanatorily. I used them exclusively on the layers they have set aside.
Skills Practice: Design Automation Demo
For this practice we were tasked with making an infographic on a design automation. I this project on spellcheck because I utilize it so often. I like the design and I hope its helpful.
Skills Practice: Design Automation Demo
For this project we used variable data to make name tags. Variable data is best used for marketing and using collected data and specific info to personalize designs to the recipient. I have before and will again use this on marketing mail.
