Zine

Overview

For this project we made a zine about our experience during the covid pandemic.

Research and Brainstorming

To prepare to embark on this project I looked for examples of type exclusive posters to see how to handle this project. I got the gist and moved to brainstorming. I think best with lists so I made lists with doodles to get my thoughts straight and come up with some plans I like.

Sketches and Doodles

I did very minor doodling because I felt I could get right into thumbnails from my brainstorm and research.

Initial Dummy

Thumbnail Readers Spreads

For my thumbnails I drew a better attempt at my favorite designs from the doodle step and I liked them all but I really liked the most straightforward layouts. I also chose a SLCC quote and a quote that is contrary to my opinion to move on to intermediates

Intermediate Readers Spreads

I took the two designs I liked and made versions that were full size.  After in class review I decided to try a design with a negative quote highlighted and a positive one with it to highlight the Ideals I want to highlight.

Computer Progressions

I then went to work on making a digital version of my design. In working digitally I love the instant and constant iteration that isn't afforded to the format. I find it hard to stop print and mark due to the want to just fly through the iterative steps. I had already found the design I liked so the edits were mainly how to treat the body copy.

Color Dummy

Once I had a final completed design in B&W I played with colors and found color swatches for my colors. I think I more or less already knew what I wanted but it worked out for me and I was happy with this step.

Final Zine

Once I had a final completed design I made the final 2 copies. I am very proud of this project.
