Overview
For this project we made an order form for a cake company. We were given freedom almost no freedom with this assignment so it was fairly straight forward from begining to end.
Research and Brainstorming
To prepare to embark on this project I looked for examples of good and bad forms to see how to handle this project. I got the gist and moved to brainstorming quickly. I think best with lists so I made lists with doodles to get my thoughts straight and come up with some plans I like.
Sketches and Doodles
I needed the most doodling with the logotype because I think there are the most options compared to when laying out the forms fillable portions.
Thumbnails
For my thumbnails I drew a better attempt at my favorite designs from the doodle step and I liked them all but I really liked the most straight forward layout with space in the table..
Intermediate Work
I took the two designs I liked and made versions that were full size. I tried the side titles but I liked the top titles better I also did the same table styles which I should have diversified but I shook it up on the final hand comp.
Final Hand
For my final hand comp I introduced tint blocks for the table as opposed to the line defined cells. I had obvious problems like "ORDER FORM" not being centered but those can be fixed in the final digital designs.
Computer Progressions
I then went to work on making a digital version of my design. In working digitally I love the instant and constant iteration that isn't afforded to the format. I find it hard to stop print and mark due to the want to just fly through the iterative steps. This step didn't have much change in a simple product like a form when a lot of the problem solving was done previously.
Final Prints
Once I had a final completed design I made a presentation version, a composite image with printers marks and slugs and the final form with all three colors. I think it looks good and am proud of the final work.
